Overtaken by winter storms at Devil's Gate and vicinity, the parties, led by Captains Martin and Willie, were threatened with destruction, but were rescued by men sent out from Utah to meet them. Story of sufferings of handcart companies coming over plains from Florence, Neb., to Salt Lake City in 1856, is graphically told by one of the pilgrims, who gives names of members of two of historic companies. ![]()
